Professional Experience

As Facilities/ Project Manager for the McGraw Hill account, Rick Richter is responsible for managing office and warehouse facilities throughout the Midwest.  His Project and Facilities responsibilities include developing and managing operating budgets, service contracts and the maintenance and reliability of all facility related systems.   Rick provides strategic and program management services for other CBRE clients in the Indianapolis area.

Since joining CBRE in late 2007 Rick has led multiple projects from concept through design/plan, bidding, and project execution including program and construction management.  

  • New construction and renovation of multiple office spaces for McGraw Hill, Eli Lilly & Lockheed Martin, including site selection, space planning, design, demolition/construction and the specification, selection and installation of fire, security and telecomm systems.
  • Existing site evaluation, space planning, new site selection, test fits and pre-construction estimates for Simplex Grinnell, McGraw Hill and others.

His project management achievements span diverse industries and facilities including commercial office / warehouse, healthcare, education, manufacturing /automation and power plants.   He’s managed technical trades and engineers and has worked closely with contractors and professionals in structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical disciplines.   Throughout his career, Rick has been a versatile team player interacting within all levels of the organizations for which he’s worked.  Other positions held by Mr. Richter during the progress of his career were Manufacturing Engineer, Project Manager, Engineering Manager and Plant Manager.

Rick’s experience spans 25 years with strategic planning, program management, and managing projects and resources within engineering and technical environments.   He has a track record of exceeding expectations with full responsibility for strategy, planning and controlling diverse projects. 

  • Prior to joining CBRE he worked as a Project Manager for Citizen’s Thermal Energy in Indianapolis, owner of the 2nd largest district steam utility system in the US.   He managed various projects for a multi-million dollar EPA driven initiative for this facility, primarily for construction and process controls.  This included reviewing designs and specifications, developing RFQs, reviewing bid packages, preparing contract documents, controlling budgets, coordinating engineering activities, scheduling contractor teams and managing construction activities through project completion, punch-list and closeout.
  • Rick has also spear-headed projects for the consolidation and relocation of manufacturing plants and associated office facilities.  These responsibilities included developing and proposing overall plans to executive management, creating project schedules, assembling and managing teams and overseeing the entire process to design facilities, process flow and manage the physical movement and rigging of all related equipment.
