Professional Experience

As the Director of Energy & Sustainability on the Comerica Bank account team, Cathy provides leadership to Comerica’s corporate sustainability efforts.  She is directly responsible for managing and reporting on sustainability initiatives and associated metrics, including programs for energy conservation, water conservation, waste minimization, commodities procurement, cost recovery, and facility performance measurement and optimization.  She provides vendor oversight for web-based irrigation control services, environmental management database services, utility bill-pay services, and waste collection/disposal services.

Ms. Anderson is also responsible for developing project plans and business case analytics for capital projects with an energy or sustainability benefit, and is responsible for overseeing implementation and performance measurement of these projects.  Project initiatives include HVAC, lighting, water conservation, and building envelope improvements. Her team provides expert sustainability management services for all 619 sites in Comerica’s portfolio.  The combined portfolio encompasses over 5.3 million square feet of building space across the USA, including the bank’s office (multi-tenant), retail, and data center locations.

Since joining the CBRE account team in 2012, Ms. Anderson has been instrumental in creating a strategic plan for achieving the bank’s first sustainability goal:  Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Corporate Real Estate Facilities by 15% by the year 2014.  The strategic plan identified the initiatives and investment required to meet the goal, and provided the glide path for early achievement of the goal.  The company was able to announce achievement of the goal at the end of 2013, with an astounding 18.9% reduction in GHG emissions achieved.  Ms. Anderson subsequently led the effort to develop strategic plans for new water reduction, waste minimization, and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals, which were formally announced during Earth Week 2015.

During her leadership of the E&S activities, Comerica Bank has received numerous industry awards for sustainability initiatives, including two consecutive year rankings as a CDP S&P 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index company, with the 2014 CDP Report scoring a “93A”.
